Service Guidelines for Government Information in Electronic Formats
North Central Michigan College Library, a Federal Depository, follows the FDLP
Internet Use Policy Guidelines http://www.access.gpo.gov/su_docs/fdlp/mgt/iupolicy.html
effective January 15, 1999. The library provides equal access to electronic
products whether on the Internet, CD-Roms, diskettes, or DVD’s if selected
and strives to make them available in a timely manner.
Information products in
the FDLP Electronic Collection are available to all users free of charge without
limitation as to residency or status. Free and unrestricted, unfiltered access
is available at floor terminals, with one terminal specifically designated for
the use of government documents should all other terminals be in use. No identification
is required for the use of these terminals.
Appropriate reference service in the use of electronic documents will be provided to all patrons.
Each terminal has downloading capabilities to disk, and printing fees remain
the same as for any other documents. Every attempt will be made to meet the
latest “Recommended Specifications for Public Access Work Stations in
Federal Depositories” as published annually in Administrative
notes.
The library will maintain a page with links to prominent and useful government
web sites.
Whenever possible, government
document records in the public access catalog will contain links to the online
publication if available.
Distance users will be
served the same as any patron needing access to government information through
the use of fax or e-mail transmission.
